Goniastrea Coral Care:
Goniastrea is a species of brain coral and cousins with popular corals like Favia and Favites. These are relatively easy to care for, and we recommend them as a beginner LPS coral.
Lighting- Goniastrea can tolerate a wide range of lighting, but we tend to keep them in lower to moderate light, around 60-125 PAR. If acclimating to higher light, we recommend doing this very slowly.
Flow- To keep this coral open and puffy, a lower flow is recommended.
Aggression- Goniastrea does send out long sweeper tentacles at night, making them a more aggressive coral. While we have not experienced too much stinging with Goniastrea, keep close watch of corals in its vicinity.
Feeding- It's best to feed Goniastrea at night when its feeding tentacles are extended. Feeding will help speed up their growth rate.
Growth- Goniastrea is a slower-growing coral. It takes them a while to form new heads, so be patient with these guys!
